The Spanish
The Spanish or also kastilische language (own name español [espa ˈɲ ol] or castellano [kaste ˈʎ ano]) is valid as a Weltsprache and belongs to the Romanesque branch of the indogermanischen languages. In Spanish it is sometimes arranged with the Portuguese and Catalan in the narrower unity of the Iberoromanischen. Another differentiation possibility arranges the Spanish together with the French, the Catalan, the Portuguese, the Okzitanischen and other smaller Romanesque languages in the Westromania one.
In Spanish it is written with Latin letters. Into modern Spanish are used the acute accent accent for vowels and both signs ñ and ü. In many dictionaries are also found ch and ll still as independent letters.
The Spanish / Kastilische one developed from one in the border area between Cantabria, Burgos, Á lava and La Rioja spoken Latin dialect to the Volkssprache of Castile (officialese was the Latin). Hence, also there comes the name castellano (Kastilisch) which refers to the geographic origin of the language. The other name, español (In Spanish), is descended from the medieval Latin name Hispaniolus, or from Spaniolus (Diminutive from "Spanish"). Ramón Menéndez Pidal recommends another etymological explanation: The classical form hispanus or hispanicus has received in the Vulgar-Latin the suffix-one (how in the concepts bretón (In Breton), frisón (Frisian) etc.) and from *hispanione to altkastilischen españón developed, „itself by the Dissimilation both nasal soon to español developed, with the ending-ol which is not used to call nations“.
Historical and socioeconomic developments and his widespread use as a lingua franca made the Kastilische the Lingua franca of the whole Iberian peninsula, in coexistence with the other languages spoken there: One estimates that in the middle of the 16th century already about 80% of the Spaniards Kastilisch spoke. [3] by the conquest of America which was the private property of the kastilischen crown the Spanish language above the whole continent spread out, from California to Tierra del Fuego.
